2001 - Cranleigh Contact

The
highlight was an exciting run in the Halford Hewitt, hugely enjoyed by
both players and loyal supporters. 'The opening round's win against Charterhouse
was easily the highlight of my OC career' (Tony Whitty, Captain). Then
Ampleforth were defeated before Merchiston narrowly defeated us in Round
3.
Cranleigh's profile in the event was clearly raised. Well played our five
pairs: Crane and Sweetland, Ferguson-Jones and Riddiford, Coleridge and
Whitty, Hansford and Staples, and Cronk and Parry.
The Spring Meeting was held for the first time in a number of years at
Walton Heath and we were blessed with a glorious day and very good attendance.
We were very pleased when Henry Allis and David Bradbeer accepted our
invitation to attend, and swallowed our pride when they performed rather
better than the older participants. Pride of place must go to David, who
had the lowest gross score, one below his handicap, and then went on to
win the Dudley Moore Foursomes with Anthony Fey. Not to be outdone, Henry
equalled the highest stableford score.
